Timothy Rukavina was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, USA.
He attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design for one year before
transferring to the Studio School of James Childs and Thomas Mairs,
here he studied for five years. Here he received the rigorous training in drawing
and traditional painting methods which has informed all his subsequent work.
This firm foundation has allowed him to move freely among the various
dsciplines of his art:still life, landscape, portraiture and mural decoration.
He has lived in London since 1980.
In 1988 he received a commission from HM the Queen for a portrait of
Dame Veronica Wedgwood for the Royal Library at Windsor, which has since
been exhibited at the Queen’s Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.
He has also been commissioned to paint an
official portrait of HM Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman.
Other notable sitters include the Earl of Longford and Sir Wilfred Thesiger.
His work has been shown regularly at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters,
in their annual exhibitions, and at many other galleries and exhibition spaces.
His works are to be found in the public and private collections
throughout Europe, North America and the Middle East.
